My Fave Mascaras for Every Occasion

I’m lucky. I’ve got long lashes. I want to thank my mother. She’s got jumbo baby blues and lashes longer than I-95. Because of this, I love mascara. I’ve gotten tons of questions on Instagram about which mascaras I use and now, well, I’m finally answering you all! From drugstore brands to high-end, these are my faves.

Unlike a lot of people, I like to mix up my mascaras. If I’m just running around for meetings and I’m not being photographed, I will use the more affordable drugstore brands because why use the expensive product if no one ever sees it?? Right??? But let’s face it…I’m usually being photographed because my job is the most narcissistic thing on the planet and I cannot let myself eating pizza go unseen. Because of that, I tend to resort to some “higher-end” options. I have my go-to mascara routine and then I also have different mascaras for different “looks.” Is that weird? Whatever…

My typical routine/ ALL-TIME FAVORITE/ Best NO-CLUMP

I. Love. Dior It-Lash. I’ve used all of the Dior mascaras and this is the best one, hands down. It separates my lashes and has a “not super fake” black color that looks good whether I use liner or not. This mascara is great on it’s own, but because I love big and bold, unclumped lashes, I still use a dark black mascara over top of my first two coats of Dior It-Lash. I just barely brush the tips of my lashes with the dark black mascara so that they don’t clump. The top coat mascara I usually use is either Maybelline Great Lash ($5.00) or one of those free sample mascaras I get with my Sephora points…because I’m always using those up.

This is my favorite drugstore mascara. I love this one for those easy days where I want to look cute, but I don’t have a lot of time. I also love using this mascara for the “natural look.” I own this one in brown and it looks super natural with one coat. Look how well it lengthens, lifts, and coats without clumping! Ugh!

BEST For DRAMA

Hypnose Drama Instant Full Volume Mascara, $27.50

The only drama I like in my life is when it’s on my lashes. This mascara brings me that. It’s the blackest of the black and the thickest of the thick. One coat of this makes my lashes almost look too intense. I usually wear this with looks that require eyeshadow and liner. If you want all drama, all the time this is the mascara for you.

If I’m feeling dramatic but not dramatic enough to use my $28 mascara, this is the choice for me.

Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara (in brown), $18.00

If I’m going for soft lashes, two coats of this light brown mascara gives my lashes some fullness and length. Just enough to make it look like my natural lashes are dark brown, long and luscious.

This mascara gives a little less definition than Clinique’s, but it’s great for a soft, natural lash.

Best for a Lash Lift

Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes, $23.00

Do you ever put on mascara but wish your lashes were lifted up and curled just a little? I’m not talking dramatic lash curler curl, but just a little lift at the tip. That’s what I mean by “lash lift” here, and this mascara gives you that. I like this option for when I’m wearing subtle eyeshadow and maybe a bold lip. It’s not my everyday go-to because it’s still a little dramatic, but it’s a great middle man between my everyday Dior It-Lash and my dramatic Lancome Hypnose mascara.  It gives a great lash lift and this brush coats everything from the root to the tip.

This gives a nice fluttery lash look…like what cartoon girls look like when they blink and flirt with a cartoon boy. This brush doesn’t hit as much lash territory as the Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes, but it’s pretty reliable and also serves as a great top coat mascara over any other kind.

Best Mascara for Your Workout (If You’re Into that Sort of Thing)

I rarely wear makeup to the gym, but if I wanted to look cute this is what I would put on my lashes. It really takes a lot of sweat for this formula to budge. Just be ready with makeup remover for later. I honestly recommend the nicer stuff if you’re wearing makeup to the gym, just so your eyes are protected and you don’t look like you just cried a river after your spin class.
